A High Court judge in London has ordered Prince Harry and six other claimants to make an interim payment of £9.54 million toward the legal costs of Associated Newspapers Ltd after their case against the publisher failed.

Mr Justice Nicklin directed that the payment be made by 4 p.m. on August 28, 2026. The order follows his dismissal in July of all claims brought after an 11-week trial earlier in the year.

The claimants had accused the publisher of the Daily Mail of unlawful information gathering. Associated Newspapers denied the allegations. The group of claimants included Prince Harry, Doreen Lawrence and Elton John.

The court was told that the publisher’s total legal costs exceeded £34 million. The £9.54 million order is an interim contribution toward those costs rather than a final accounting of the full amount.

The ruling concerns costs arising from the concluded case and does not alter the earlier judgment dismissing the claims.
