Amhara’s regional administration is preparing an education fund and foundation to support schools, according to a 3 October 2026 report by The Reporter citing regional social-sector coordinator Mulunesh Desie.

Mulunesh told the newspaper that officials were finalizing the governing directive after a year of work. The proposal would give communities a role in improving school facilities and seek financing from local and international partners, including alumni.

The initiative remains under preparation. The report did not provide an exact adoption date or confirm that the fund had begun operating.

The proposal follows Chief Administrator Arega Kebede’s address to the regional council on 1 October 2026. According to the newspaper, he identified school dropout rates, limited progression to secondary education and gaps in provision for learners with special needs as priorities. He also described insecurity as an obstacle to teaching and school access.
