The Committee to Protect Journalists has condemned what it described as an escalating campaign by Ethiopian authorities against Addis Standard and called for actions targeting the independent publication to end immediately.
The press-freedom group’s intervention follows reported actions against the newsroom and its staff, including the detention and alleged assault of Editor-in-Chief Yonas Kedir, a raid on the publication’s office, the destruction or seizure of equipment and an eviction order.
The CPJ statement is a new response to events that AddisMizan previously covered following Kedir’s release and reports of the office raid. The allegations remain politically sensitive and warrant independent scrutiny, including clarification from the relevant Ethiopian authorities.
