Eight people were killed in a shooting at a home in Erie, Pennsylvania, on October 9, 2026, before the suspected attacker died from what investigators believe was a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to police accounts reported by The Guardian.

Children were among the victims. Police said the eight people killed were seven relatives and a family friend. Their identities had not been publicly released in the report published on October 10.

Officers were called to the residence at about 5 p.m. on October 9 following reports of gunfire. They found two women dead outside and six other victims inside, along with the suspected gunman, the newspaper reported.

At a news conference on October 10, Erie police chief Rick Lorah said investigators had not established a motive. Authorities said there was no ongoing threat to the public.

Al Jazeera separately reported in its source-item summary that nine people, including the attacker, died in the Erie shooting. The police investigation into the circumstances remained open.
