Ethiopia hosted the 19th Intra-Africa Metrology System General Assembly in Addis Ababa on August 6, 2026, with participants focusing on how reliable, digitized measurement systems can support trade integration and economic transformation across Africa.

The meeting was held at Quality Village under the theme “Metrology for Digital Transformation.” Fana Broadcasting Corporate reported that Ethiopia used the opening of the assembly to emphasize the role of trusted measurement infrastructure in the continent’s expanding digital economy.

Metrology—the science and infrastructure of measurement—underpins product standards, industrial quality controls and confidence in cross-border transactions. Digitizing those systems can help institutions exchange measurement data more efficiently, but regional trade depends on countries recognizing and trusting one another’s results.

The assembly gives African measurement institutions a forum to coordinate that work as governments seek to reduce technical barriers to commerce under wider continental integration efforts.
