Discussions on Ethiopia’s sixth review under its International Monetary Fund lending programme are expected in November 2026, with an Executive Board decision anticipated in early 2027, The Reporter Ethiopia reported on 14 October, citing an IMF spokesperson.

The newspaper said the spokesperson gave no firm dates for either stage. The timing therefore remains an expectation rather than an announced board appointment.

The report also clarifies the significance of 15 October 2026 in the programme’s earlier schedule. According to the spokesperson’s explanation to The Reporter, that date was the earliest possible window for a disbursement, rather than a deadline to complete the review. Funds remain subject to board approval.

An IMF mission must assess performance and consult Ethiopian authorities before the board considers its findings. The Reporter separately cited IMF communications director Julie Kozack explaining that sequence and saying a completion date could not yet be fixed.

The IMF’s official board calendar confirms that Ethiopia’s fifth review was considered on 1 July 2026. The next review is a separate assessment; completion of the previous round does not establish approval of the next disbursement.
