- Ethiopian and Nigerian leaders opened a nutrition exchange in Addis Ababa on October 7, comparing planning, financing and accountability approaches.

Ethiopia and Nigeria opened a leadership exchange on nutrition in Addis Ababa on October 7, 2026, bringing senior officials together to compare approaches to tackling malnutrition, according to Fana Media Corporation.
Ethiopian Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Truneh and Nigerian Vice President Kashim Shettima jointly opened the meeting. Fana reported that Temesgen presented lessons from Ethiopia’s Seqota Declaration, focusing on how nutrition commitments are translated into government plans and spending.
The measures he described included coordination across health, agriculture, education and water services; costed planning at woreda level; federal and regional financing; and monitoring of implementation. He also discussed food fortification and the expansion of nutrition interventions. These were presented as Ethiopia’s experience, rather than independently measured outcomes of the exchange.
The meeting takes place alongside wider bilateral discussions. In a separate October 7 report, the Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation said Temesgen and Shettima discussed food security, nutrition experience sharing and investment opportunities. The exchange gives the two governments an opportunity to compare delivery systems and the financing needed to support them.
