Sandor Csanyi, president of the Hungarian football federation, has withdrawn his confidence in FIFA president Gianni Infantino, becoming the fifth of the organisation’s eight vice-presidents to call for Infantino to leave office.

In a letter sent on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, Csanyi questioned Infantino’s professional judgment, ethical standards and leadership. He identified the dismissal of FIFA chief operating officer Kevin Lamour on Monday as the final event behind his decision.

Lamour was removed after publicly opposing an earlier proposal to sell private investors stakes linked to the World Cup. Csanyi also cited other controversial decisions, including plans involving external control of FIFA competitions.

Csanyi joins UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin, Concacaf president Victor Montagliani, Asian Football Confederation president Sheikh Salman bin Ebrahim al Khalifa and English Football Association chair Debbie Hewitt in opposing Infantino’s continued leadership.

Three vice-presidents — Conmebol president Alejandro Domínguez, Confederation of African Football president Patrice Motsepe and Oceania Football Confederation president Lambert Maltock — continue to support Infantino, according to the report. Csanyi also sits on the 37-member FIFA Council.
