- Kit Harington will play Gilderoy Lockhart in season two of HBO’s “Harry Potter” series after Nicholas Hoult left because of scheduling conflicts.

Kit Harington has joined the second season of HBO’s “Harry Potter” series as Gilderoy Lockhart, replacing Nicholas Hoult, according to Variety.
Variety reported on Monday, August 24, 2026, that Hoult left the production because of scheduling conflicts. Lockhart is a central character in “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets,” the second book in the series.
Harington, widely known for his role in “Game of Thrones,” has also voiced Lockhart in Audible’s “Harry Potter” audiobooks. The casting therefore brings him to a screen version of a character he has already performed in audio.
