The Metropolitan Museum of Art is no longer proceeding with a planned John Galliano retrospective that had been scheduled to run from May 9, 2027, to January 9, 2028.
The exhibition was also expected to provide the theme for the 2027 Met Gala. Its cancellation follows renewed criticism of Galliano over past racist conduct, according to the stored Variety report published on August 31, 2026.
Galliano would have been only the third living fashion designer to receive a Met retrospective. The decision removes both the exhibition and its proposed gala tie-in from the museum’s 2027 programme.
