At least five people died after a cargo aircraft operating for Amazon overran a runway at Miami International Airport on September 6, 2026, struck vehicles and caught fire, according to officials cited by the Guardian. Associated Press also reported at least five deaths.
Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava said five other people were injured. Fire-rescue officials said three were in critical condition and two were taken to hospital, the Guardian reported.
The aircraft was operated by 21 Air. In a statement to the Guardian, the Federal Aviation Administration identified it as Flight 7598, a Boeing 767-300 arriving from San Juan, Puerto Rico, and placed the runway overrun at about 2 p.m. local time on September 6.
The airport announced runway and taxiway closures at 3 p.m. that day. The report did not establish when normal operations would resume.
The National Transportation Safety Board said it was sending investigators. The cause had not been established. Amazon said it was working with authorities and supporting those affected.
