Médecins Sans Frontières said on September 28, 2026 that it had suspended activities at Alamata hospital and halted outreach work because of insecurity, while reinforcing hospitals receiving wounded patients in northern Ethiopia.
The organisation said Korem and Alamata hospitals received more than 420 war-wounded patients between September 22 and 25. More than 300 had arrived at Suhul hospital in Shire by September 25. These facility figures should not be read as a total casualty count for the conflict.
MSF said staff withdrawn from outreach work were reassigned to hospitals. Its teams continued supporting services in Shire, Sheraro and Korem, including care for mothers and children.
The update describes a medical response expanded since September 22 as fighting resumed between the Tigray People's Liberation Front and its allies and Ethiopian federal forces. MSF also said it was tracking displacement and preparing assistance in Tigray, Amhara and Afar.
