London’s National Theatre has announced 18 productions for its 2027 programme, including eight world premieres, with new work exploring political power, family relationships and social change.
James Graham’s Major will examine John Major’s rise to the British premiership, directed by Jeremy Herrin. British Nigerian playwright Oladipo Agboluaje’s The Adeyemis – A Family Saga will premiere at the Dorfman theatre, starring Uzo Aduba and directed by Lucian Msamati. Another new production, Moira Buffini’s The Great Indaba, will bring South African and Northern Irish political figures into focus under National Theatre director Indhu Rubasingham.
The programme also includes Natasha Gordon’s adaptation of Bernardine Evaristo’s Mr Loverman and Glorious Madness, a new musical with songs by Joan Armatrading and a book by Iman Qureshi.
Alongside the premieres, the theatre plans productions of West Side Story, Suddenly Last Summer and David Hare’s Plenty. The announced programme extends beyond the London stages through touring, cinema, streaming and educational work.
