Nepal-Tibet flood death toll rises to 768 as 3,048 remain missing

The confirmed death toll from the devastating flash floods along the Nepal-Tibet border rose to 768 on Sunday, August 30, 2026, as rescuers searched for more than 3,000 missing people and authorities warned of further flooding.

The disaster began after a glacier collapse triggered a sudden surge of water near the China-Nepal border. Entire villages were engulfed, transport links were severed and rescue work has continued under the threat of renewed flooding.

The new toll is a significant increase from the nearly 600 deaths reported on August 28. Authorities and humanitarian agencies have warned that casualty figures may rise further as searches continue in inaccessible areas.
