The death toll from a school shooting in Thailand’s Nonthaburi province rose to nine after a 12-year-old girl died from her injuries, police said on Saturday, August 8, 2026.
The girl had been in critical condition following the August 7 attack at Debsirin Nonthaburi school, northwest of Bangkok. Police said a 14-year-old boy allegedly shot his grandparents before attacking people at the school and then killing himself.
More than 30 people were wounded. Fourteen remained in hospital on Saturday evening, including seven in critical condition, according to the report.
Investigators were continuing to question witnesses, including the suspected attacker’s parents. Authorities said at least 26 rounds were fired and another 34 rounds of ammunition were found with the boy. The weapon belonged to his grandfather.
Thailand’s Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said the government would introduce new gun laws, though he did not provide details about possible changes to ownership requirements. He said only government officials on duty would be permitted to carry firearms.
Thailand has experienced several mass shootings in recent years, including a 2022 attack in the country’s northeast that killed 37 people, 22 of them children.
