A United Nations agency warehouse and facilities used by local and international aid organizations were looted in Tigray on October 4, 2026, the UN said, reporting losses of supplies intended for humanitarian operations.

Deputy spokesperson Farhan Haq disclosed the incident at the UN’s October 5 briefing. The lost supplies included food and agricultural materials, as well as water pumps. The briefing did not identify those responsible or give a value for the losses.

Haq called for protection of relief workers and humanitarian property. He also expressed concern about reports of civilian casualties, including among displaced people, amid insecurity in northern Ethiopia. He provided no casualty total in that update.

The UN said telecommunications and electronic banking had resumed in most of Tigray on October 4 after an interruption lasting more than a week. Restored services could help residents obtain essential services and support relief operations.

Plans were being prepared to restart food and health assistance deliveries in Tigray and Afar, according to the briefing. It did not confirm that those deliveries had resumed.

The Reporter covered the looting on October 7. That publication date is separate from the October 4 incident and October 5 UN announcement.
