US deports Milo Yiannopoulos to Britain after immigration detention

U.S. immigration authorities deported British media figure Milo Yiannopoulos to the United Kingdom on Friday, 28 August, after detaining him at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport, according to the Department of Homeland Security.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement detained Yiannopoulos on Thursday, 27 August. A department spokesperson said he had entered the United States legally through New York in May 2019 but remained after his authorization expired.

The spokesperson said an immigration judge issued a final removal order on 22 July after Yiannopoulos failed to attend an immigration hearing. The department said the deportation was completed the following month. The available source did not include a response from Yiannopoulos to the government’s account.

Yiannopoulos, 41, is a former senior editor at Breitbart News and was once a prominent figure in U.S. far-right media. He later worked briefly on rapper Ye’s aborted 2024 presidential campaign and served as an intern for former U.S. representative Marjorie Taylor Greene.

He had publicly advocated aggressive immigration enforcement, including immediate deportation for people unable to prove legal status in the United States.

Yiannopoulos’s public profile declined after controversy over past remarks about sexual relations involving minors. He resigned from Breitbart in 2017. His account on Twitter, now X, was banned in 2016 after targeted racist and misogynistic abuse and reinstated after the platform changed ownership in 2022.
