Vučić resigns as Serbia’s president to seek prime minister’s post

Aleksandar Vučić resigned as Serbia’s president on September 27, 2026, seeking to become prime minister after an early parliamentary election scheduled for October 25.

He plans to lead the governing Serbian Progressive Party into the vote. His resignation ends a presidential term that was due to run until May 2027; Serbia’s constitution bars him from seeking a third term.
