Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed announced additional executive appointments on October 8, 2026, following the parliamentary approval of ministerial nominees earlier that day, according to reports by The Reporter and Fana Media Corporation.

The Reporter said Alemtsehay Paulos was named minister of mines, succeeding Habtamu Tegegn. Ambassador Betre Mengistu was appointed head of the Prime Minister’s Office and minister of cabinet affairs.

Fikadu Tesema was named government whip, replacing Tesfaye Beljige, according to The Reporter. The newspaper linked that change to Tesfaye’s appointment as president of the South Ethiopia Regional State.

The same report said Adem Farah would remain head of the Democratic System Building Center with the rank of deputy prime minister, while Enatalem Meles would continue as minister of the Government Communication Service.

Fana separately reported that Abiy had made additional senior executive appointments, describing them as distinct from the ministerial cabinet approved by the House of Peoples’ Representatives earlier on October 8. The later appointments extend the formation of the executive leadership beyond the parliamentary cabinet vote.
