Britain’s Amy Hunt won the women’s 100 metres at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham on August 10, 2026, taking her first major senior title in 11.00 seconds.
The 24-year-old recovered from a slow start and moved through the field late in the race. Poland’s Ewa Swoboda finished second in 11.02, while Belgium’s Delphine Nkansa took bronze in 11.06.
The victory followed Hunt’s silver medal at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow two weeks earlier. Racing before a home crowd at Alexander Stadium, she said the earlier experience had helped her manage the expectations and pressure surrounding the European final.
Hunt’s win also marked another step in a career disrupted by significant injuries. Once the world’s fastest 18-year-old over 200 metres, she later suffered a serious quadriceps rupture before rebuilding her form and winning 200m silver in Tokyo in 2025.
She is entered in the 200m and the women’s and mixed 4x100m relays in Birmingham, giving her further medal opportunities during the championships.
Norway won the mixed 4x400m relay earlier in the evening in a championship-record 3 minutes 9.62 seconds. Britain’s Ben Jefferies, Charlotte Henrich, Toby Harries and Yemi Mary John took silver, finishing nearly a second behind.
