The Mercedes driver finished ahead of Red Bull’s Max Verstappen and McLaren’s Lando Norris, according to The Guardian’s race report. Charles Leclerc took fourth for Ferrari, with Mercedes’ George Russell fifth.
The decisive change came around a virtual safety car period. Antonelli stopped while the reduced-speed conditions were in force, but pole-sitter Norris made his stop after they ended and lost track position. Norris subsequently recovered to third but could not pass Verstappen in the closing stages.
Leclerc stayed out longer than the other leaders and led before making his pit stop on lap 48. Antonelli then completed his eighth win of the season.
Lewis Hamilton retired with a brake problem on lap six. Russell remained Antonelli’s closest championship challenger, now more than three race wins’ worth of points behind his teammate.
