Arsenal defeated Manchester City 3-0 in the Community Shield at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium on Sunday, August 16, securing the first trophy of the 2026-27 English season.
Riccardo Calafiori put Arsenal ahead after 24.5 seconds, finishing after a pass from Myles Lewis-Skelly. Kai Havertz doubled the lead in the 28th minute, heading in after Christos Tzolis redirected Martin Ødegaard’s cross.
Ødegaard completed the scoring three minutes after halftime, wrong-footing goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma before finishing. City created few clear chances, with Erling Haaland sending one of their better opportunities wide late in the first half.
The match was Enzo Maresca’s first competitive game as Manchester City manager. Arsenal entered the fixture as defending Premier League champions and will begin their league title defence at home to Coventry on Friday. City are scheduled to host Bournemouth the following Sunday.
The Community Shield returned to the Principality Stadium for the first time since 2006 because Wembley Stadium was unavailable.
