Australia’s First-Half EV Sales Surpass Full-Year 2025 Total

Figures attributed to VFacts and the Electric Vehicle Council show 103,855 battery-electric vehicles were sold from January through June 2026. That narrowly exceeded the 103,269 sold across the full 2025 calendar year.
Electric vehicles now account for almost one-quarter of new-car sales in Australia, the report said. The acceleration comes as conflict in the Middle East has added uncertainty around petrol prices, strengthening consumer interest in alternatives to conventional fuel-powered cars.
The figures indicate a sharp change in the pace of adoption, though the comparison covers a six-month period in 2026 against a full year in 2025. Future sales data will show whether the momentum persists through the second half of the year.
