The Wallabies led 24–17 at half-time and scored five tries, according to The Guardian's match report. Hunter Paisami, Len Ikitau and Ben Donaldson crossed before the break, with Harry Wilson and Max Jorgensen adding second-half tries.
Australia's advantage came under pressure when Wilson, Ryan Lonergan, Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii and Paisami were sent to the sin bin, leaving the hosts with 11 players at one stage. South Africa scored three late tries, but Australia prevented the visitors from completing the comeback.
