Berhane Demissie, co-founder and managing partner of Cepheus Growth Capital Partners, has been appointed to the board of the Global Partnership for Ethiopia, the consortium behind Safaricom Ethiopia.
The appointment followed a two-day board meeting held at Safaricom Ethiopia’s headquarters in Addis Ababa during the week of August 24, 2026. Demissie is the second Ethiopian to join the consortium’s board, after Ermias Eshetu was appointed in March 2025.
Demissie has more than two decades of experience in private equity, investment management and corporate finance in Ethiopia and the United Kingdom. Before co-founding Cepheus, she worked at Citigroup in London and served as a senior consultant to Ethiopia’s Public Financial Enterprises Agency. She holds an MBA from Imperial College London.
The Global Partnership for Ethiopia includes Vodacom Group, Safaricom, Vodafone, Sumitomo, British International Investment and the International Finance Corporation. The consortium oversees Safaricom Ethiopia’s investment in telecommunications infrastructure and financial inclusion. Demissie’s appointment adds further local representation and market experience to its governance.
