A consortium that includes Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin is close to acquiring a 30% stake in Liverpool Football Club from Fenway Sports Group, according to reports published on August 10, 2026.

The group is led by Amit Bhatia, a former Queens Park Rangers shareholder and director. The proposed investment is valued at about £1.35 billion, implying an overall club valuation of roughly £4.5 billion, or about $5.9 billion.

The Guardian reported that the transaction is effectively agreed after months of talks but could take up to a month to complete. Fenway Sports Group had not publicly confirmed the deal at the time of reporting and was approached for comment.

Bezos, Amazon’s executive chair, would receive equity through what would be his first reported investment in football. Saverin is also part of the investor group. Amazon has expanded into sports broadcasting in recent years, including football and American football rights in several markets.

Fenway Sports Group has owned Liverpool since 2010. During that period the club won two Premier League titles, among other trophies. FSG previously sold a minority stake to Dynasty Equity in 2023.

Because the transaction has not formally closed, the ownership structure and final terms remain subject to completion.
