- Newly reported audited results put CBE’s profit at 38.71 billion birr for the year ended June 30, 2025, supported by an impairment reversal despite foreign-exchange losses.

Commercial Bank of Ethiopia recorded net profit of 38.71 billion birr for the financial year ended June 30, 2025, up from 22 billion birr a year earlier, according to audited results reported by The Reporter on September 5, 2026.
The newspaper said the financial statement was released during the week of its report, following approval on August 10, 2026. The figures cover the year ending in 2025, rather than the bank’s latest completed financial year.
A 37.04 billion birr reversal of impairment losses helped support earnings. Such a reversal reduces previously recognized allowances for losses on financial assets. The improvement came despite a reported 36.71 billion birr loss on foreign-currency transactions, compared with a gain in the preceding year.
Interest income reached 132.06 billion birr, while staff and other operating expenses rose to 113.71 billion birr, according to the newspaper’s account. Deposits reached 1.695 trillion birr and loans and advances stood at 516.22 billion birr.
The results point to a substantial contribution from changes in impairment allowances alongside growth in the bank’s lending and deposit business. The Reporter said the full notes accompanying the auditor’s report had not been published, limiting the detail available on impairment changes and individual income streams. AddisMizan could not independently examine the underlying audit.
