Chelsea and Aston Villa have completed another pair of transfers between the clubs, with goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez moving to Chelsea and forward Nicolas Jackson joining Villa.
Chelsea paid £7.5 million for Martínez. Jackson’s move to Villa could be worth up to £65 million, which would make him the club’s record signing if all conditions are met.
The deals continue extensive movement between the two Premier League sides. Chelsea also signed Morgan Rogers from Villa for £117 million this summer, while Alejandro Garnacho joined Villa from Chelsea on loan with a conditional obligation to buy.
Villa manager Unai Emery rejected the suggestion that repeated negotiations reflected a friendly sporting relationship. He described the exchanges as business driven by money and players, while stressing that the teams remain competitors.
Villa are rebuilding after several departures and are due to host Arsenal on Monday, August 31. Emery said new arrivals Jackson, Leon Goretzka and Zion Suzuki could make their debuts.
