Chelsea have completed the signing of Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez from Aston Villa for a reported £7.5 million.

The 33-year-old agreed a three-year contract at Stamford Bridge, the clubs confirmed on Sunday, August 30, 2026. Martínez said joining Chelsea was an easy decision for him and his family and that he wanted to compete for titles with the club.

Martínez joined Aston Villa from Arsenal in 2020 and became a central figure in Villa's rise, helping the club win the Europa League in May 2026. Villa thanked him for his contribution and highlighted the major international honours he collected during his time at the club.

The goalkeeper won the 2022 World Cup with Argentina and two Copa América titles. He also received the Yashin Trophy in 2023 and 2024.

The completed transfer gives Chelsea an experienced option expected to challenge for the first-choice goalkeeping role, while ending a period in which Martínez had sought a move away from Villa.
