- An Australian federal court found eHarmony misled customers over subscription costs and renewals after a case brought by the country’s consumer watchdog.

An Australian federal court has found that dating website eHarmony engaged in misleading and deceptive conduct over the way it presented subscription costs and renewal terms to customers.
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission brought the case against the US-based company in 2023. The consumer watchdog challenged eHarmony’s claims about free dating services and the information shown to users when they purchased premium memberships.
The regulator said it had received hundreds of complaints about the site and its memberships. According to the court finding reported on August 25, 2026, the subscription practices left thousands of customers facing charges of hundreds of dollars each.
The ruling adds to scrutiny of online subscription businesses whose sign-up, pricing and renewal processes can make the full cost of a service difficult for consumers to understand.
