Ethiopian Electric Utility has unveiled a 25-year plan to expand and modernize the country’s electricity-distribution network, with estimated investment needs of $30.65 billion through 2049.

The utility launched the national roadmap on July 27, 2026. EEU chief executive Getu Geremu presented the plan, according to an official account carried by Fana Broadcasting Corporate.

The initiative concerns the distribution system that delivers electricity to customers, rather than electricity generation alone. The disclosed cost is an estimate for the long-term program; the source material available to AddisMizan did not specify a financing package or implementation timetable for individual projects.
