Ethiopia wins half-marathon team bronze as Ngetich sets women-only record

Ethiopia won team bronze in the women’s half marathon at the World Athletics Road Running Championships in Copenhagen on 20 September 2026, as Kenya’s Agnes Ngetich won the individual title in a women-only world-record time, subject to ratification.
Ftaw Zeray led the Ethiopian finishers in eighth place with 1:07:07. Meselech Alemayehu placed 11th in 1:07:42 and Baraky Redae finished 14th in 1:07:51, according to the official individual results. Ethiopia’s combined team time was 3:22:40, behind Kenya’s 3:17:33 and the United States’ 3:19:51.
Ngetich finished in 1:05:15, improving by one second on the women-only record set by Kenya’s Peres Jepchirchir in Gdynia in 2020. World Athletics said the performance remains subject to its usual ratification procedure.
Kenya’s Veronica Loleo took individual silver in 1:06:05, 50 seconds behind Ngetich. Rwanda’s Florence Niyonkuru earned bronze in 1:06:08, a national record.
The result gave Ethiopia a place on the team podium despite finishing outside the individual medals.
