Fernandes hat-trick powers Manchester United to 5–2 comeback win over Ipswich

Bruno Fernandes scored a hat-trick as Manchester United came from behind to defeat Ipswich Town 5–2 at Old Trafford on Sunday, August 30, securing their first Premier League win of the season.

Leif Davis put Ipswich ahead before Fernandes equalised in the 40th minute. United moved in front through a Jacob Greaves own goal in the 56th minute, and Fernandes added goals in the 61st and 68th minutes to complete his treble. Bryan Mbeumo scored United’s fifth in the 82nd minute, while Chuka Akpom replied for Ipswich in added time.

The result was a sharp response to United’s 2–0 opening defeat at Hull. It was also the club’s first five-goal Premier League performance since a 5–1 win over Leeds United in August 2021, another match in which Fernandes scored three times.

United manager Michael Carrick highlighted his side’s reaction after falling behind, while Fernandes called the home victory an important result after the previous week’s loss.
