France drew 1–1 with Italy in the UEFA Nations League on 2 October 2026, leaving Zinedine Zidane without a victory in his first home match as national-team coach.

Michael Olise opened the scoring at the Stade de France in Saint-Denis in the 55th minute. After a short free-kick from Rayan Cherki, his curling effort went in off the crossbar.

Alessandro Bastoni brought Italy level midway through the second half, advancing into space before beating Mike Maignan with a low shot.

Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma made several important saves, including stops from Ousmane Dembélé and Désiré Doué before France took the lead. He denied Adrien Rabiot after the equaliser and kept out Eduardo Camavinga in stoppage time.

France ended the match a player short after Dayot Upamecano received a second yellow card. The hosts continued searching for a winner but could not get past Donnarumma again.

The result kept France at the top of Group A1, one point ahead of Belgium, according to the Guardian’s match report.
