Ethiopian adviser Getachew Reda and UN peacekeeping chief Jean-Pierre Lacroix discussed closer cooperation on peace and stability in the Horn of Africa during talks alongside the UN General Assembly, according to Ethiopian reports published on September 25, 2026.
Fana Media Corporation reported the meeting in a source item carried by AddisMizan. A separate account from the Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation identified Lacroix, the UN under-secretary-general for peace operations, as Getachew’s counterpart and said both officials stressed the need for closer coordination.
EBC also reported that Lacroix praised Ethiopia’s contribution to peacekeeping, particularly in South Sudan. That assessment is attributed to the broadcaster’s account; a separate UN readout was not available for verification.
The meeting formed part of Getachew’s diplomatic engagements during the 81st General Assembly. The reports did not give a separate calendar date for the talks or announce a new mission, deployment or funding commitment.
