Bangladesh took command of the first Test against Australia in Darwin on Thursday, August 13, 2026, after fast bowler Hasan Mahmud produced a career-best 6 for 55 and the tourists closed the opening day on 96 for 1.
Australia chose to bat but were dismissed for 198 in 53 overs. Hasan removed openers Jake Weatherald and Travis Head before returning to account for Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Steve Smith and Nathan Lyon. Taskin Ahmed and Ebadot Hossain took two wickets each.
Smith provided most of Australia's resistance with 71 from 109 balls, including seven fours and a six. Bangladesh then lost Shadman Islam for 20, but Mominul Haque and Tanzid Hasan reached stumps unbeaten on 35 and 32 respectively, leaving the visitors 102 runs behind with nine first-innings wickets in hand.
The match is Australia's first home Test against Bangladesh since 2003 and opens a two-match series. It also began a demanding 12-month period in which Australia are scheduled to play 20 Tests.
