Ikea plans to test an online furniture-buyback service in Spain and Portugal before December 31, 2026, extending a scheme that already allows customers to exchange used furniture for vouchers in stores, The Guardian reported.
A UK launch would depend on the trial’s success. The report did not specify a start date for the pilot or a confirmed date for its possible expansion to Britain.
The proposal comes alongside a separate secondhand marketplace that lets Ikea members buy and sell used Ikea furniture directly to one another. That platform is due to launch in the UK during the week beginning October 5, 2026, according to the report.
The two services offer different routes for resale. Under buyback, the retailer provides vouchers for accepted furniture. On the marketplace, individual buyers and sellers make the transaction and initially arrange collection or delivery themselves.
The Guardian reported that the UK marketplace would initially be free, with a buyer-protection fee of about 5 percent planned later. Those marketplace terms should not be read as confirmed terms for the online buyback pilot.
