JJ Spaun won the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth on 20 September 2026, finishing two shots clear after a closing round of 67 took him to 17 under par.
The American made four birdies over his final five holes to set the target, according to the Guardian’s tournament report. Spain’s Manuel Elvira still had a chance to win outright as he played the last hole, but a double bogey left him tied for second alongside Rory McIlroy, Aaron Rai and Adam Scott at 15 under.
Elvira had eagled the 17th and needed a birdie on the par-five 18th to claim the title, or a par to force a playoff. His approach to the finish unravelled after his layup found a bunker, followed by further trouble around the green.
The victory came on Spaun’s first appearance at Wentworth. Sky Sports also reported his win, identifying Elvira’s late stumble as the decisive opening.
McIlroy closed with a 68 to share second place. For Spaun, the strong finish secured the title at the DP World Tour’s flagship tournament after a final round in which the outcome remained undecided until Elvira completed the last hole.
