Josh Kushner and Bob Iger have agreed to purchase the Los Angeles Lakers for a reported $12.5 billion in a deal that would set a record for a United States sports franchise.
The proposed sale by Mark Walter still requires approval from the NBA Board of Governors, whose next meeting is scheduled for September. Until that approval is secured, the transaction is not final.
Kushner and Iger said they intended to build on the Lakers’ foundation, compete at the highest level and serve the team, its supporters and Los Angeles. Walter described owning the franchise as an honor and expressed confidence in its future.
Walter acquired a majority stake from the Buss family in a transaction that valued the Lakers at $10 billion and received board approval in October 2025. The Lakers have won 17 NBA championships, with their most recent title coming in 2020.
