Marc Skinner Leaves Manchester United Women After Five Years

Marc Skinner has left his position as head coach of Manchester United Women by mutual consent after five years in charge, the club confirmed on Monday, August 3, 2026.

The 43-year-old departs after guiding United to three consecutive Women’s FA Cup finals from 2023 to 2025. His team won the competition in 2024, beating Tottenham Hotspur 4-0 at Wembley to secure the women’s side’s first major trophy.

United also reached the Women’s Champions League quarter-finals and the League Cup final in the 2025-26 season. Skinner’s best league finish was second place in 2022-23; the team finished fourth in his final campaign.

His departure follows discussions about the club’s sporting direction. United are placing greater emphasis on academy development and homegrown players, while Skinner had repeatedly called for stronger transfer-market investment. The summer sale of France forward Melvine Malard to Chelsea for a reported club-record fee also raised questions among supporters about the squad’s ambitions.

United said Skinner made a significant contribution to the team’s progress and thanked him for his work. The club has assessed potential successors and is expected to appoint a new head coach ahead of its Women’s Super League opener against London City Lionesses on September 4.
