Mohamed Salah arrives in Turkey ahead of expected Trabzonspor move

Mohamed Salah arrived in Istanbul on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, ahead of an expected free-transfer move to Turkish club Trabzonspor.

The Egypt forward was met by hundreds of supporters at Atatürk Airport and appeared in Trabzonspor’s burgundy-and-blue colours. The club had announced a day earlier that negotiations were under way, while chairman Ertuğrul Doğan said a signing ceremony was expected in the Black Sea city on Thursday.

Salah was due to undergo a medical examination before travelling onward to Trabzon. Sky Sports reported that the move followed a mutual agreement to end his Liverpool contract one year early, while Al Jazeera and the Guardian also reported his arrival and the expected deal.

The 34-year-old leaves Liverpool after nine years in which he scored 257 goals in 442 appearances. He won two Premier League titles and the Champions League with the club.

Salah’s 2024-25 league season produced 29 goals and 18 assists, earning him the Premier League Player of the Season award, Golden Boot and Playmaker Award. His output fell to seven goals and seven assists in 27 league appearances last season.

Trabzonspor finished third in Turkey’s top division last season and are due to enter the Europa League playoffs. The transfer remained subject to completion of the medical and formal signing process at the time of reporting.
