Russian citizens in Ethiopia voted at Russia’s embassy in Addis Ababa on September 20, 2026, in elections for the State Duma, the lower house of Russia’s parliament, according to The Reporter.
The newspaper’s September 21 report said polling station No. 8351 opened at 8 a.m. and that Ambassador Evgeny Terekhin was among the first to cast a ballot. Terekhin said the embassy expected as many as 200 voters. The report did not provide a final turnout figure or a local vote count.
The voting gave Russian nationals in Ethiopia a place to participate in the election for the Duma’s ninth convocation. A pre-election embassy notice published by Capital on September 12 had announced voting at the same polling station on September 20, corroborating the date and location.
Speaking during the voting, Terekhin also discussed relations with Ethiopia. According to The Reporter, he said more stable international conditions would support bilateral cooperation and described Ethiopia’s BRICS membership as an opportunity to expand economic, transport and humanitarian ties. Those comments were the ambassador’s assessment.
