Elena Rybakina won her first US Open women’s singles title on September 12, 2026, defeating Aryna Sabalenka 6-4, 5-7, 6-2 in New York and ending the defending champion’s bid for a third consecutive title.

The victory gave the Kazakhstani her third Grand Slam singles trophy, following Wimbledon in 2022 and the Australian Open earlier in 2026. It also completed a tournament in which she had secured her rise to the top of the world rankings.

Rybakina took the opening set despite difficulties with her first serve. Sabalenka responded by winning the second, forcing a deciding set, but Rybakina improved her serving and pulled away to close out the match. The Guardian reported that she sealed victory with her 12th ace.

The final followed Rybakina’s semifinal win over Coco Gauff. Against Sabalenka, she added a second major final victory of the year over the same opponent, having also beaten her for the Australian Open title.
