Safaricom Ethiopia reported total revenue of 6.13 billion birr for the quarter ended June 30, 2026, an increase of 66.1 percent from about 3.69 billion birr a year earlier, according to the company’s quarterly investor update.

Service revenue rose 67.6 percent to 6.02 billion birr. On a constant-currency basis, after accounting for depreciation of the birr, the company put service-revenue growth at 102.2 percent.

Mobile data generated about 4.38 billion birr, up 78.6 percent year on year, and accounted for 72.8 percent of service revenue. Voice revenue increased 36 percent to slightly more than one billion birr, although its share of service revenue declined to 17.1 percent.

The operator’s three-month active customer base grew 46.1 percent to 14.7 million. Three-month active M-PESA customers increased 131.3 percent to 5.69 million, while the mobile-money service’s transaction value rose 174.8 percent to about 19.51 billion birr.

Safaricom Ethiopia had 3,592 base stations at the end of June. The company said it plans to keep expanding the network and M-PESA adoption while working toward earnings-before-interest-tax-depreciation-and-amortisation break-even during the current financial year.
