In short
- Shell reported $9.84 billion in second-quarter net profit as higher oil and gas prices boosted earnings despite a sharp decline in integrated gas production.

Shell’s net profit more than doubled to $9.84 billion in the second quarter of 2026 as the company benefited from higher oil and gas prices amid disruption to global energy markets.
The result compares with less than half that amount in the same period a year earlier. The Guardian reported that wholesale energy prices and trading activity rose as conflict in the Middle East disrupted flows through the Strait of Hormuz.
Oil prices climbed from about $61 a barrel in January to a high of $126 in late April, according to the report. Brent crude was trading at $93.18 a barrel on July 30.
Shell also reported that production from its integrated gas division fell 30% from the corresponding quarter in 2025. The decline followed damage to assets at the Ras Laffan liquefied natural gas complex in Qatar in March, with repairs expected to take about a year.
The earnings renewed calls from environmental groups for a windfall tax to help households facing higher energy costs and to support climate resilience and clean-energy investment. Shell shares rose 1.5% in early trading on July 30.
