A consortium led by former Newcastle United co-owner Amanda Staveley has agreed a deal to acquire the Gold family trust’s 25.1% stake in West Ham United.

Vanessa Gold, the daughter of former West Ham joint-chair David Gold, confirmed the agreement on August 1. The proposed sale remains subject to a pre-emption process that gives the club’s existing shareholders an opportunity to buy the shares instead.

The consortium includes Staveley, Mehrdad Ghodoussi and PCP Capital Partners. Staveley and Ghodoussi were involved in the Saudi-backed takeover of Newcastle in 2021 and remained at the club until 2024.

Gold said a previously announced agreement with Daniel Kretinsky’s EP Group, which would have made it West Ham’s largest shareholder, could not be completed despite discussions about alternatives.

The latest agreement therefore does not yet complete a change in ownership. Its outcome depends on the existing-shareholder process.

The ownership talks come after West Ham were relegated from the Premier League last season. The club is due to begin its attempt to return to the top flight with a Championship match at Burnley on August 16.
