- Teófimo López defeated Rolando “Rolly” Romero by majority decision in Las Vegas on August 22, 2026, winning the WBA welterweight title and becoming a champion in a third weight division.

Teófimo López became a world champion in a third weight division after defeating Rolando “Rolly” Romero by majority decision at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on August 22, 2026.
Two judges scored the 12-round WBA welterweight title fight for López, 115-113 and 116-112, while the third scored it 114-114. Romero, who was making his first title defence, disputed the verdict after the bout.
López used his jab and movement to limit Romero’s sustained offence, although Romero hurt him and opened a cut above his right eye in the fifth round. López recovered and regained control over the later rounds.
The victory added the 147-pound belt to López’s previous championship achievements at lightweight and junior welterweight. It also returned him to championship status seven months after a decision loss to Shakur Stevenson.
