Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow has described Ethiopia’s pursuit of access to the sea as legitimate, according to two reports published on August 31, 2026.
Sihasak said the issue should be addressed through dialogue, cooperation and understanding with Ethiopia’s neighbors. The comments placed Thailand’s emphasis on a peaceful diplomatic approach rather than a unilateral outcome.
