Tiger Woods receives five-year driving suspension after Florida crash plea

Tiger Woods pleaded no contest to reckless driving on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, resolving a criminal case stemming from a March rollover crash in Florida.

A Martin County court adjudicated the 50-year-old golfer guilty of willful and wanton reckless driving as a second offense. Under a plea agreement, Woods was fined $1,000 and his driver’s licence was suspended for five years. Prosecutors reduced an original charge of driving under the influence with property damage.

Woods also pleaded no contest to refusing to submit to a lawful test and was fined $500 on that count. Court records cited by The Guardian showed total fines and costs of $2,131.44. He agreed not to seek a hardship exemption during the suspension.

The case arose from a March 27, 2026 crash near Woods’ home on Jupiter Island. Authorities said his Land Rover overturned after it clipped a trailer while he attempted to pass a truck on a narrow road in Hobe Sound. Woods, who was alone in the vehicle, was not injured.

Investigators reported that a breath test detected no alcohol, while Woods declined to provide a urine sample for drug testing. He had previously pleaded not guilty before changing his plea under the agreement.

The suspension adds to a series of traffic incidents involving the 15-time major champion. Woods pleaded guilty to reckless driving in a separate Florida case in 2017, and he suffered severe leg injuries in a 2021 crash in California. Injuries and surgeries have sharply limited his competitive schedule in recent years.
