The United States removed sanctions designations under its Ethiopia-related emergency authority after that emergency expired, the Treasury Department announced on September 18, 2026.
The Office of Foreign Assets Control said it had taken those designated under Executive Order 14046 off its Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons list. The order, issued on September 17, 2021, addressed the humanitarian and human rights crisis in Ethiopia.
The [official removal notice](https://ofac.treasury.gov/recent-actions/20260918) names Eritrea’s People’s Front for Democracy and Justice, the Eritrean Defense Forces, Red Sea Trading Corporation and Hidri Trust, along with Hagos Ghebrehiwet and Abraha Kassa. Alternate spellings also appear in the notice; they do not represent additional people.
The action changes the status of designations imposed under this particular executive order. Treasury’s notice does not announce a blanket end to every U.S. restriction affecting Ethiopia or Eritrea, and it does not itself change arms-export licensing rules.
